A Square for the City. Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz
Projects and Perspectives
Schwedenplatz und Morzinplatz. One square? Two squares? Or just leftover surface area in the centre of town?
In recent years, this property has started to develop, and interest in it has grown. Who would have thought that people once strolled through boulevards here, that boutiques and coffeehouses once set the atmosphere?
Both squares were badly affected during World War Two. The destroyed buildings were cleared away, the area itself, however, more or less left to traffic. That is to change.
Schwedenplatz and Morzinplatz are both key focal points for development in Viennese urban planning. There are few other places where so many phases of Vienna’s city history converge so clearly; almost no other place lets you experience today’s metropolis in so concentrated and exciting a way.
The exhibition A Square for the City documents the area from a historical perspective, showing the remarkable artistic and architectural projects of recent years.
You can visit the exhibition in the Atrium of the Wien Museum Karlsplatz from October 5th to November 6th 2011, free of charge
